How Was Your Night?

Do you know it is wrong to ask ‘ how was your night’?

I was shocked when I found out about this and I know a lot of people don’t know this
Here it is, as posted by Edward E Onoriode.

I attended a IED (Improvise Explosive Device) fusion cell meeting with some US and British EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) experts yesterday to discuss all the IED incidences that had happened within the week across Somalia.

At the meeting hall, I saluted one of the British officers ‘Good morning sir’ and he responded back ‘good morning to you too’

My oversabi did not allow me to keep quiet so I went further with the Nigeria popular phrase ‘how was your night sir?’

Dude was shock. He looked at me in a weird way as if I’d said something out of the ordinary. Something that’s sacrilegious which is an abomination to his ears. After some sec, he said ‘how my night went is non of your business’

I was awed in shock. Normally, I was expecting a simple ‘fine’ ‘Good’ ‘Splendid’ ‘ My night was great’ etc. But he didn’t say any of these but he told me ‘how my night went is non of your business’ I felt embarrassed.

For minutes, I couldn’t mutter a word back to him. I just buried my head in shame.

All through the meeting, I was lost in thought and I couldn’t concentrate with the meeting minutes. I kept asking myself within, ‘was my question wrong?’ ‘have I said something that offended this man?’ ‘could it be that he had a bad night rest and he decided to transfer the aggression at me?’

After the meeting, I did a little Google search and I couldn’t believe the answers I got.

Ladies and gentlemen, did you know the phrase “How was your night ” In English Language means “How was last nights sex?” “how was your night shift duty?” “how is your health during the night hours?”
Whenever you ask this question in the morning to healthy people who are not in sick bed, you’re invariably inquiring about their sexual comfort/activities during the night or how their night shift went and it’s rude to ask such mostly if you’re not closely related to the person. No wonder the British officer find my question condescending because he felt I was intruding in his private business since I’m not too familiar with him. But I asked that question with a sincere and innocent mind without any harm. Basically, how was your night is normally asked to people who are receiving treatments in the hospital or people who are on night shift.

Nigeria has really messed me up. Now, I’d be more careful whenever I want to speak with these white folks because I never can tell when I’d say something that’s offensive and evasive again. By the way, I need to un-learn so many English I’ve been proudly speaking, they’re wrong.
My happiness is that I know the appropriate question whenever I want to enquire how a person’s night went now and it should be; “Did you have a good night sleep?” or “Did you sleep well?”

Meanwhile, good morning friends, how was your night?

So good morning guys, how was your night😂😂😂

Tasty Experience: Hot Spot!

Hey guys, I went to another place today called ‘Hot Pot’. It is at wuse 2. It is a nice place to eat and relax. The prices of their food is reasonable and the meals are really delicious.

I had pounded yam and vegetables with pomo and a bottle of water. I promised myself that I wouldn’t eat rice until the end of the week and my journey has started. I can say that this meal was the best meal I’ve taken since I came to Abuja; it was very tasty, juicy and sumptuous

I will definitely be going back there. My meal costs 900 naira only.

Menu: white rice, jollof rice, ofada rice, pounded yam, eba, semo, goat meat, chicken, beef, pomo etc

This is definitely going to be my go to food place

How Are You?

So this morning my friends were talking about depression and some people have the opinion that there is no such thing as depression while others claim to have experienced it.

What exactly is depression?

I got curious and went to check some things online and realised that it is not what we all think it is. As much as the word ‘depressed’ has been over used it actually exists and is very real!

Here are my findings:

Sadness, feeling down, having a loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities – these are symptoms familiar to all of us. But, if they persist and affect our life substantially, it may be depression.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 7.6 % of people over the age of 12 have depression in any 2-week period. This is substantial and shows the scale of the issue.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the most common illness worldwide and the leading cause of disability. They estimate that 350 million people are affected by depression, globally.

Quick facts on depression

  • Depression seems to be more common among women than men.
  • Symptoms include lack of joy and reduced interest in things that used to bring a person happiness.
  • Life events, such as bereavement, produce mood changes that can usually be distinguished from the features of depression.
  • The causes of depression are not fully understood but are likely to be a complex combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychosocial factors.

Depression is different from the fluctuations in mood that people experience as a part of normal life. Temporary emotional responses to the challenges of everyday life do not constitute depression.

Likewise, even the feeling of grief resulting from the death of someone close is not itself depression if it does not persist. Depression can, however, be related to bereavement – when depression follows a loss, psychologists call it “complicated bereavement .”

Symptoms of depression can include:

  • depressed mood
  • reduced interest or pleasure in activities previously enjoyed, loss of sexual desire
  • unintentional weight loss (without dieting) or low appetite
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping) or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping)
  • psychomotor agitation, for example, restlessness, pacing up and down
  • delayed psychomotor skills, for example, slowed movement and speech
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  • impaired ability to think, concentrate, or make decisions
  • recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or attempt at suicide

Please speak out. A problem shared is a problem half solved they say but not every problem shared can be solved but keeping your pain bottled up isnt the best solution either

I think we underestimate the use of therapist or shrinks in this part of the world. We all need somebody at a point in our lives

This is only my thought. What is yours?

Health Is Wealth!

This article is designed to give tips about how you can improve or augment actions in your life to have a healthy lifestyle.

It is not meant to be all inclusive but will include major components that are considered to be parts of a lifestyle that lead to good health.

“Healthy living” to most people means both physical and mental health are in balance or functioning well together in a person.

In many instances, physical and mental health are closely linked, so that a change (good or bad) in one directly affects the other.

Tips:

  • Eat three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner); it is important to remember that dinner does not have to be the largest meal.
  • The bulk of food consumption should consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk products.
  • Choose lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts (with emphasis on beans and nuts).
  • Choose foods that are low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars; look at the labels because the first listed items on the labels comprise the highest concentrations of ingredients.
  • Control portion sizes; eat the smallest portion that can satisfy hunger and then stop eating.
  • Snacks are OK in moderation and should consist of items like fruit, whole grains, or nuts to satisfy hunger and not cause excessive excessive weight gain.
  • Avoid sodas and sugar-enhanced drinks because of the excessive calories in the sodas and sugar drinks; diet drinks may not be a good choice as they make some people hungrier and increase food consumption.

Yeah yeah I can be serious at times. Health is wealth o. Please take your health very serious so that you can enjoy your money without stress.

Have a lovely morning guys!

You are worth your bite…

One of my new year resolutions is to try new things and places so I went to have lunch at a restaurant called ‘CHOW BY MOSCOW’

Chow by Moscow is in Ademola Adetokunbo street, Wuse II, Abuja, Nigeria.

They have rice, noodles, drinks, and small chops

I ate white rice and beef stew with peppered chicken and a bottle of water. I have to drink lots of water because apparently my folks realised I don’t drink enough water

So if you are hungry and you are in the area you could stop by ‘chow by moscow’ and chow😂😂… you get?😂😂

The food plus water cost 1500 naira and the food was nice but the chicken wasn’t so spicy but their customer service is nice  when we told the woman she apologised sincerely.

Generally, the food was nice and the environment really classy. I was feeling like a classy babe😂😂 that I am☺

Recap

THE JOURNEY…. I call this ‘the journey’ because I believe that is what it is. I believe this is only a phase in my life and it would pass very soon. I went to a dermatologist on the 27th of may 2019 to start treatment for my skin because it was just not good at all. I had my face checked, scrubbed and cleaned and the woman said something about hormonal imbalance. Anyways she put me on a routine and I was supposed to start seeing improvements after 2 weeks but although I think I was seeing some improvements it was lightening my face which I did not like at all so I stopped and went back to her then she told me to reduce the way I used the cream and gave me an Indian mask and all sorts jor. My face is still not looking the way I want it but now I have decided to stop the treatment and just let the face be. I know it will clear out by itself.

My sister told me to drink enough water, wash my face every morning and night and I should not touch my face so I’m going to do just that.
Fingers crossed🤞

ps: it’s better than it looks in the picture now tho
